Swazi Govt Clamps Down on Free Speech

The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) expresses its deepest concern at reports from Swaziland that Vincent Ncongwane, secretary general of the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA), was prevented from speaking at a gathering.
 
Ncongwane, who returned from the United States (US) where he attended a civil society meeting held to coincide with the US-Africa Summit hosted by US President Barack Obama, was due to address the gathering on the outcomes of this visit.

SANEF Condemns Assault on Journalist

The South African National Editors' Forum (SANEF) condemns an apparent assault of a multimedia journalist, allegedly by a member of President Jacob Zuma's VIP protection unit.
 
SANEF states that it expects civil servants particularly those escorting the President to respect the rights and duties of the media.
 
Eyewitness News journalist, Reinart Toerien has since opened a case of common assault against Zuma's VIP unit.
 

Madonsela to Testify in SABC Crises Inquiry

Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela will be one of the witnesses called to testify in the inquiry into the crisis at the SABC.

Parliament’s ad hoc committee‚ which has been tasked with holding the inquiry‚ met for the first time on Tuesday to finalise the programme and witness list.

The meeting took place as news emerged that two more SABC board members had resigned‚ leaving the board of the troubled broadcaster with just one member — chairman Mbulaheni Maguvhe.

CMT seeks to appoint a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) System Coordinator, based in based at its Head Office in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

The M&E System Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the M&E strategy and provide oversight for CMT’s Outreach programme area. The person will form part of the Outreach team and report to the Director: Outreach.
