ISLA seeks to appoint a Finance and Administration Officer, based in Johannesburg.

Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa: Programmes Coordinator

The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) is based on the belief that strategic litigation is an immensely strong tool for social change because it helps to reframe the understanding of entitlements before the law and it challenges the legal discourse on women’s rights and sexual rights. ISLA stands for the proposition that investment in local institutions and individuals is key to maximizing the impact of strategic litigation. ISLA aims to have a full staff of 18 people consisting of a litigation team as well as program support officers and lawyers.

Foundation Admits to Funding Breytenbach

The FW De Klerk Foundation is footing the hefty legal bill of senior prosecutor, Glynnis Breytenbach, partly by way of multimillion-rand donations from billionaire businessman, Nathan Kirsh.

The Foundation’s executive director, Dave Steward, admits that Kirsh, “…a major donor, also to our litigation fund, which has paid the legal fees of Glynnis Breytenbach.”

Steward explains that from this donations, the organisation also funds other projects, adding that the main project is Breytenbech’s litigation.

Southern Africa Litigation Centre: Prisoners Rights Programme Lawyer

The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) promotes and advances human rights and the rule of law in southern Africa, primarily through strategic litigation support and capacity building. SALC works in Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. 

SALC seeks to appoint a Prisoner’s Rights Programme Lawyer, based in Johannesburg.

Southern Africa Litigation Centre: LGBTI & Sex Worker Programme Lawyer

The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) promotes and advances human rights and the rule of law in southern Africa, primarily through strategic litigation support and capacity building. SALC works in Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. 

SALC seeks to appoint a LGBTI and Sex Worker Programme Lawyer, based in Johannesburg.

Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa: Senior Development Officer

The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA) is a new African initiative that aims to contribute to the development of jurisprudence on sexual rights and women's human rights on the continent. ISLA aims to develop jurisprudence before domestic courts, the African Human Rights Systems and UN treaty bodies on ISLA’s thematic areas of focus areas. ISLA provides legal representation and support to those who seek to hold states accountable for violations of women’s human rights and sexual rights.

Southern Africa Litigation Centre: Litigation Director

The Southern Africa Litigation Centre (SALC) promotes and advances human rights and the rule of law in southern Africa, primarily through strategic litigation support and capacity building. SALC works in Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. 

SALC seeks to appoint a Litigation Director, based in Johannesburg.

The successful candidate should be highly qualified, motivated lawyer to lead its litigation work in the region.

Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa: Communications Intern

The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa, ISLA, is a new initiative that uses litigation before national courts and the African human rights systems to advance women’s human rights and sexual rights.

ISLA seeks to appoint a Communications Intern, based in Johannesburg.

Although offices are in Johannesburg, Interns can work remotely.

Internship Duration: three months minimum; 12-15 hours / week.

Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa: Legal Research Intern

The Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa, ISLA is a new initiative that uses litigation before national courts and the African human rights systems to advance women’s human rights and sexual rights.

ISLA seeks to appoint a Legal Research Intern, based in Johannesburg.

Although offices are in Johannesburg, Interns can work remotely.

The Intern will assist with conducting research and compiling summaries of cases to develop a case law database. 

Internship Duration: three months minimum; 12-15 hours / week.
