Achieving the Malaria MDG Target: Reversing the Incidence of Malaria 2000–2015

In this joint publication, United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) and the World Health Organisation report that between 2000 and 2015, malaria mortality rates among children under age 5 fell by 65 per cent, saving an estimated 5.9 million lives. The report highlights the remarkable global and regional progress made against malaria, and the main challenges that remain in controlling and eliminating this disease, which still poses a threat to about 3.2 billion people – almost half of the world’s population.

This brief aims to inform discussions about how best to provide services, programmes and support for young people who sell sex. It offers a concise account of current knowledge concerning the HIV risk and vulnerability of young people who sell sex; the barriers and constraints they face to appropriate services; examples of programmes that may work well in addressing their needs and rights; and approaches and considerations for providing services that both draw upon and build the strengths, competencies and capacities of young people.

Cash Transfers and Child Nutrition: What We Know and What We Need to Know

This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the impacts of cash transfer programmes on the immediate and underlying determinants of child nutrition, including the most recent evidence from impact evaluations across sub-Saharan Africa. It adopts the United Nations Children's Fund extended model of care conceptual framework of child nutrition and highlights evidence on the main elements of the framework – food security, care and health care.
