The increasing use of software applications (widely known as Apps) in solving Africans' problems has been highlighted by the three winning entries of the Apps4Africa: Climate Challenge contest.
The regional competition encourages participants to address local climate change challenges through the development of web-based and mobile applications in the East African region.

The African National Congress (ANC) accuses the Democratic Alliance led provincial government of the Western Cape for failing the exploited wine farms workers, following a Human Rights Watch (HRW) report.
The report ‘Ripe with Abuse: Human Rights Conditions in South Africa’s Fruit and Wine Industries’, which revealed that the farm workers are exploited, abused and underpaid by their employers in that province.
ANC provincial leader, Marius Fransman, states that the national government needs to intervene the province’s wine and fruit industry.
World Bank Group Announces New Instrument to Help Food Producers and Consumers in Developing Nations Deal with Volatile Prices
The World Bank Group today announced a new risk management product to provide up to an initial $4 billion in protection from volatile food prices for farmers, food producers, and consumers in developing countries, addressing a key issue that will be discussed later this week by Group of 20 (G-20) ministers.

According to Statistics South Africa, the gross income earned by the farming sector during the financial year ending 28 February 2007 was R79,5 billion.
Stats SA project manager, Moses Mnyaka, who released the key findings of the census of commercial agriculture 2007, says that there is a comparable increase of 49,2 percent from the R53,3 billion gross income recorded in the 2002 survey.
