NGO Commends Rwanda Over Elections

The Civil Society Election Observation Mission (CSEOM) has announced that Rwanda’s presidential election was conducted in a transparent and conducive atmosphere.

Chief observer and spokesperson of the Rwanda Civil Society Platform’s Eugene Rwibasira, points out that, "According to the information from our teams, the election procedures were respected, both during the campaigns and on election day."

Kenya Pledges to Work With ICC

Kenya has pledged to cooperate with the International Criminal Court's (ICC) investigation into deadly post-vote violence in the country in 2007-8 and promised to protect witnesses.

In a summary of the meeting, Kenya says it will ‘fully cooperate with the International Criminal Court and ensure the protection of witnesses from intimidation and violence.

The declaration came at a meeting in Geneva between the UN Human Rights Council and a Kenyan delegation led by its justice minister over the probe into the unrest, which claimed around 1 200 lives.

EISA - making content more dynamic

I inherited the EISA Democracy Encyclopedia when I arrived at the organisation in 2003 and it's been fun to grow this project. We now have a dedicated Researcher developing content for it. The next step will be making this resource more dynamic, sharing it and getting feedback on how it's being used.

That's one reason why I'm sitting in a workshop on using web 2.0 and social media for NGOs today.

Local Government Elections: A Civil Society Perspective

Dr. Rama Naidu of the Democracy Development Programme, an NGO that develops capacity in  governance for enhanced participation in democratic political processes, writes an opinion piece about the local government election.

His article speaks to controversial issues such as civil society's poor engagement with the political process, officials with zero accountability and the narrow perspectives of minorities.
