The former Kenyan Prime Minister and head of African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM), Raila Odinga, has applauded the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the government of South Africa for their commitment to bringing peace and stability in Lesotho.
Odinga points out that the AUEOM encourages the electorate to exercise their democratic rights and civic responsibility but participating actively and peacefully in tomorrow's election.

Africa may be rising, but its success is primarily measured by economic growth and development, while discourse on democratisation is far less prominent than at the onset of the new millennium. At the same time, many African states are forging ever-deeper ties with emerging powers that seem to place little value on democracy and human rights.
This begs the question of whether Africa’s leaders are still committed to advancing good governance, accountability and transparency.

Mozambicans voted in elections on 15 October 2014 in hopes of escaping years of poverty and conflict by tapping into the country’s huge energy resources.
With more than 10 million voters registered to take part in the elections for a new president, parliament and provincial assemblies, foreign donors and investors hope the ballot will help to bury old animosities still lingering from a 1975 -1992 civil war fought between the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) and its old foe, Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO).

Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela states that South Africa's greatest heritage is its Constitution.
In a press statement, Madonsela’s office affirms that, "South Africans' national heritage transcend[s] artefacts, historical knowledge, traditional clothes, music, language, the environment, and other beautiful legacies from our past."
She considers the Constitution as a ‘roadmap’ for the South African people.

The African Arts Institute (AFAI) is a Cape Town-based non-governmental organisation (NGO). Its overall objective is to promote participatory democracy, respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms and equitable social and human development in African countries by affirming the cultural dimension of development.

I have battled with issues that our country is faced with; the scourge of poverty, the deepening unemployment and the unrelenting inequality. These are produced by colonial as well as apartheid epochs of our history. They translate into over 400 hundred years of oppression of black people by colonialism and apartheid using the most brutal system ever known to humans. We have found political solutions in the advent of our constitutional democracy and are hopeful in the ability of our country to deliver on economic freedom that we so much desire.
