Sign Language to be Added to Curriculum

South African Sign Language will be introduced as a subject to pupils in Grades R to 3, and Grade 9 from 2015.
The Department of Basic Education recently announced that teacher training had already started and the plan was to have the curriculum introduced across grades by 2018.
The plan follows on the success of a three-year pilot programme launched in the Western Cape in 2011.

Aligning Schools Curriculum With Vision 2022

Swaziland’s National Curriculum Centre (NCC) is working towards upgrading the schools curriculum to be in line with the First World Vision 2022.

NCC’s Sandile Shabangu revealed that the biennial meeting that would be held this year would be held under the theme ‘Vision 2022; implications and opportunities for the curriculum’.

The NCC expects participants from all walks of life to attend the conference with specific reference to educationists, politicians, economists, industry, non-governmental organisations, faith-based organisations and the general public.

Curriculum Development Project Trust: Executive Director

The Curriculum Development Project (CDP) Trust is a NGO committed to primarily developing and providing quality, accessible and transformative arts and culture training in the formal and non-formal sectors. The Trut’s programmes provide women, children and communities with creative development opportunities for self- determination and well-being.

CDP seeks to appoint an Executive Director, based in Johannesburg.

South African Education is Doomed until Teachers are Taught

The Minister of Basic Education’s statement on the review of the national curriculum (6 July 2010) highlights the fact that no curriculum can be static. The curriculum should meet the present and potential needs of the country and it has been widely acknowledged there are some glaring gaps in the curriculum which needed to be addressed in order for learners to progress from the General Education and Training (GET) to the Further Education and Training (FET) phase smoothly.
