'Global Emergency' in Civil Society, Says Report

Global civil society is under more pressure than ever before, partly down to the increase in populism and extremism, according to this year’s State of Civil Society Report by CIVICUS.

CIVICUS, which is an international alliance dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society throughout the world, publishes a report each year looking at trends affecting civil society around the world. This year it said that the diminishing civic space could be characterised as a "global emergency".

Mandela NGO to Preserve SA Heritage

Speaking at the official opening of the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in Johannesburg, President Jacob Zuma says the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory plays a vital role in preserving part of South Africa’s heritage.
 
Zuma believes the centre has made a major contribution towards integrating the liberation heritage into our nation’s cultural heritage.
 
“The resources housed at this centre form an integral part of defining where we come from as a nation.  They also help in articulating the kind of society we seek to build,” he stated.
 

National Education Collaboration Trust: Chief Financial Officer

The National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT), a partnership initiative involving government, business, labour and civil society aiming to improve educational outcomes in South Africa, was launched by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe in July 2013.

The NECT seeks to appoint a Chief Financial Officer, based in Centurion.

Heinrich Böll Foundation: Project Officer

The Heinrich Böll Foundation (HBF) has been active in Southern Africa since 1989. For many organisations and individuals, it has become a partner for civic education and formation of networks, provider of international contacts, observer and analyst in the region.

The HPF seeks to appoint a Project Officer for its Climate Governance in Africa (CGA) project, based in Cape Town.

Starting date: As soon as possible and to be held until the end of 2015.

The Atlantic Advancement Initiative (AAI) is a multi-year project which commenced in 2012. It works with five selected nonprofit organisations with a view to strengthening and supporting efforts to build the Advancement operations of grantee organisations and build the pool of organisational Advancement professionals in South Africa.
