UNICEF Seeks Funds for 'New Generation of Crises'

The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has launched its biggest ever appeal for US$3.1 billion to help 62 million children at risk from a ‘new generation of humanitarian crises’.

UNICEF's director of emergency programmes, Afshan Khan, "From deadly natural disasters to brutal conflicts and fast-spreading epidemics, children across the world are facing a new generation of humanitarian crises."

Zuma Launches ‘Child Protection Week’

President Jacob Zuma has criticised parents for being careless with their children ‘sometimes’, during the launch of ‘Child Protection Week’ in Atteridgeville, north of Pretoria.

Zuma pointed out that, "While we are excited that we'll be receiving visitors for the World Cup we must be mindful that an event of this magnitude opens opportunity for criminals with ill intentions of trafficking in women and children."
