Another Bullying Video from Stellenbosch School

Parents and residents of Idas Valley protested at Lückhoff High School in Idas Valley, Stellenbosch, on Tuesday after a second bullying video came to light, Netwerk24 reported.

The video was shared on social media just days after a video surfaced which showed a girl being assaulted at the school. Instead of intervening, her school mates had taken a video of the attack.

In the second video, the attacker was also a girl. Some pupils tried to stop the fight.

Bullying Incidents Worrisome, Says SAHRC

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) says incidents of bullying in the country’s schools have become ‘worrisome’.

SAHRC spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, says that schools should have policies and measures in place aimed at stopping bullying in schools.

Mangena’s comments follow an incident this week, in which a Grade 10 pupil from Phineus Xulu Secondary School in Vosloorus, was shot dead minutes before he was due to write his year-end exam.

SADAG Slams Bullying at Schools

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG), a NGO that counselled the family of a 13-year old Gauteng pupil who committed suicide recently because of bullying, says that more than four suicides attributed to bullying had been reported in the last two weeks around the country.

SADAG operations director, Cassey Chambers, points out that they are receiving more calls about this form of ‘terrorism’, adding that, “A larger number of children are also coming forward and talking about their horrific experiences.”
