Nene Fails to Put His Money Where Zuma's Mouth Is

In his belt-tightening medium-term budget policy statement on 22 October 2014, Finance Minister, Nhlanhla Nene, failed to provide the considerably increased finances that the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) would require to tackle the enhanced peace-making role that President Jacob Zuma envisages for it.

Aid Agencies Urged to Source Materials Locally

Aid agencies should source development products from local manufacturers to help them make the most of their budgets and improve their impact. This is the view of service providers and manufacturers from Africa.

In a press statement, AidEx - a global humanitarian and development aid event held annually in Brussels - argues that development agencies spend around US$69 billion each year on procuring goods and services from external providers - more than 50 percent of total official development assistance.

How NGOs and Similar Organisations Can Get More for Less

Whether you're a big corporate or a struggling NGO, budgets are getting smaller and tighter everywhere you look. While everyone is trying to get the good work done, administration and marketing tasks often fall by the wayside. This leads to backlogs and many late nights as there are fewer people available to share the workload. This is usually when you try to squeeze the budget and hire a part or full-time assistant to help with these duties. This is not necessarily the only way to go, there are other options for getting more help for less cost.
