Community Media Trust: M&E System Coordinator

Community Media Trust (CMT) is a national non-governmental organisation which produces media for radio, TV and mobile platforms and implements training and social mobilisation programmes.

CMT seeks to appoint a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) System Coordinator, based in based at its Head Office in Rondebosch, Cape Town.

The M&E System Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the M&E strategy and provide oversight for CMT’s Outreach programme area. The person will form part of the Outreach team and report to the Director: Outreach.

The successful candidate should be a committed individual with initiative and strong administrative skills to provide support the office. This position would suit somebody who lives close to town. (The cost of transfers / relocation will not be subsidised).

Responsibilities:

SABC Staff Released in DRC

Two South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) crew members who were arrested while trying to broadcast a soccer match in the Democratic Republic of Congo have been released.

Two technical crew members were kicked out of a stadium in Lubumbashi, arrested and later escorted to their hotel.

According to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, South Africa has taken up the matter with the consul general in Lubumbashi, who will assist the SABC crew.

NGOs Call for a Boycott of Top TV

Two anti-pornography organisations; Women And Men Against Child Abuse and the Family Policy Institute, have called for a boycott of Top TV, which has been granted licences by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, to broadcast pornography.
 
The organisations argue that pornography leads to the abuse of women and damages children.
 

SABC, etv, Blamed for Digital Migration Delay

The Department of Communications has accused free-to-air channel, etv, and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) for holding up South Africa's migration to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT).
 
Communications Minister, Dina Pule, points out that, "The SABC and etv have yet to advise us on the set-top-box control system... this has resulted in the current delays we are facing."
 

NGO Slams Top TV’s Porn Channels

The Family Policy Institute says that Top TV’s airing of pornography channels will only heighten sexual abuse against women and children and further degrade society.

The Family Policy Institute director, Errol Naidoo, points out that, “To launch this in a nation already reeling under the weight of sexual abuse against women and children is nothing short of criminal.”

Directors Blame Pule for their Resignations

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board members have blamed Communications Minister, Dina Pule, for their resignations.
 
The six non-executive directors, who resigned days after the resignations of the board chairperson, Dr Ben Ngubane ad his deputy, Thami ka Plaatjie, say Pule does not know where her powers start and end.
 
Meanwhile, President Jacob Zuma, accepted their resignations and the earlier ones from Ngubane and Ka Plaatjie.
 

CSOs, Churches, Unite Against TopTV

Civil society groups and churches are once again uniting behind a boycott of TopTV as it seeks permission from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to broadcast three porn channels.

The Family Policy Institute, in partnership with several major Christian denominations in South Africa, has launched a nation-wide boycott of TopTV, its advertisers, and sponsors.
