Public Broadcasting Amendment Bill
In July 2008 Members of Parliament introduced the Broadcasting Amendment Bill. The Bill’s primary purpose was to introduce clauses to remove the controversial 2007 SABC Board. The Broadcasting Act did not allow for removal of Board members except if Board members agreed to remove one of their own.
Coalition members stated that ideally there should be a proper legislative review process and the drafting of a new SABC Act. However, given the fact that this would take time and that the SABC governance crises were deepening daily, we agreed to support some immediate amendments.
