The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Oslo Governance Centre has produced this guide as part of its work on Civil Society, empowerment, and governance. The Guide provides a snapshot of more than 300 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) working on democratic governance both regionally and globally. It is intended for UNDP Country Offices in order to facilitate their outreach and collaboration with CSOs.

The South African Non-Governmental Coalition (SANGOCO), organised and hosted a NGO Caucus on the 8 March 2005, comprising of civil society organisations to exchange information and take collective responsibility to assist the financial sustainability of the NPO sector. A core group of participants from the NPO sector and donor community were invited to participate in a discussion on "Development Finance."
