E-Philanthropy in 2007

In his opinion piece featured on PNN Online, Vinay Bhagat, considers the state of e-philanthropy in relation to the international nonprofit space in 2007.

Bhagat, writes that the nonprofit sector has come a long way in its use of the Internet. He is of the view that almost every (international) nonprofit has basic online marketing capabilities including a Web site as well as the ability to take donations and send email.

SAHRC to Provide Parliamentary Briefing on Evicted Farm Workers

SA Celebs Bare All for HIV/AIDS Campaign

Eighteen South African celebrities have posed naked for Marie Claire magazine’s Each One Reach One Campaign to raise funds for the Treatment Action Campaign’s (TAC) fight against HIV/AIDS.

The proceeds from the nude portraits, which are up for auction until 1 March  2007 , will be donated to the TAC. The portraits will be featured in a February special edition of Marie Claire. Bids for the nude portraits start at R1 000.

ODAC Approach Justice Minister for Help

The Open Democracy Advice Centre (Odac) has requested the Minister of Justice, Brigitte Mabandla, to release documents relating to allegations of fraud and corruption in the Cape Town master’s office.

The request, which comes after more than six months since the first request was made, relates to the case of a Cape Town woman who was widowed in 1995 and is still struggling to have her late husband’s estate finalised.

Report Focuses on Underreported Humanitarian Crises Worldwide

MSF, 23 January 2007.

Doctors Without Borders has released an in-depth report that focuses on 10 most underreported humanitarian crises affecting more than 70 countries worldwide, where the organisation operates.

Titled “Ten Most Underreported Humanitarian Crises of 2006”, the report looks into crises caused by armed conflicts, epidemics natural or man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care.
