Raw was the keynote speaker at an investment summit at Touwsrivier on Friday. Several members of the Touwsrivier community and representatives from local government and business came together to share ideas of how to revive the small town's ailing economy.

Future of Water project commences at Bloekombos

Water is a vital resource in all communities. Despite the good rainfall this past winter, water restrictions in the Cape continue to negatively impact communities, especially those living in under resourced areas. One such settlement is the Bloekombos informal settlement, bordering Kraaifontein, where small businesses such as car washes and micro-farming gardens are prohibited from using municipal water for their trade.
 

Child law centre loses SCA bid

Media houses may continue to name children involved in criminal cases after they turn 18 and “become adults”, whether they be victims, witnesses or offenders, the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) has ruled.

However, while the court turned down the Centre for Child Law’s (CCL) bid to extend identity protection beyond the age of 18 – it has granted protection to child victims of crime and child witnesses.

Mnangagwa wins 2018 elections

On August 1, following the announcement of the parliamentary election results in Zimbabwe, which saw Emmerson Mnangagwa's Zanu-PF winning a clear majority, opposition MDC Alliance supporters held a demonstration in and around Harare's central business district, claiming the vote was rigged. 

In response, the Zimbabwe Defence Force (ZDF) soldiers fired live ammunition on the protesters, killing six people. 

Beautiful democracy says Mnangagwa

Zimbabwe's president is praising "a beautiful expression of freedom & democracy" after polls have closed in a historic election.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa says on Twitter that millions have voted in "mutual respect & peace." He urges the country to wait patiently for the electoral commission to announce the results.
