Load shedding will be reduced - Eskom

22 March 2019

Eskom will implement Stage 2 load shedding on Friday, as strain on the national grid improves and “signs are encouraging” that there will be reduced rotational power cuts as available generating capacity improves, according to Eskom spokesperson Andrew Etzinger.

Stage 2 will be implemented between 09:00 and 23:00 on Friday.

This is the first time in almost a week that Eskom will not implement Stage 4 cuts,  which removes up to 4 000 MW from the grid.

SA universities must lead Industry 4.0 curriculum

South Africa's higher learning institutions must up their game and increase the number of educational programmes that prepare students for the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) era.

So says Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) minister Naledi Pandor, noting that only 11 South African universities offer course modules in 4IR and related fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

"If we intend to take full advantage of 4IR, all our universities and colleges should be offering such courses," she says.

British MPs will vote on Thursday on a government plan to hold a third ballot on May's deal and request a delayed departure, whatever the result.

But how would such a postponement be triggered and for how long could London put off severing its four-decade-old ties with the European Union?
