The digital generation which is rapidly engulfing the whole world is changing lives and businesses.  This trend has affected government’s service provision tendencies.  Governments can no longer sit on comfort zones of providing services in the old fashioned ways.  The Fourth Industrial Revolution demands for new digital technologies that bring new possibilities for more personalized, convenient and inexpensive service experiences.

It is encouraging to see recent involvement in socio-economic development by the ITC Corporations.  Another such involvement is the on by Facebook in partnership with Digify Africa.  These companies are soon going launch the “Boost with Facebook” training programme, which aims to train over 3 000 South Africa businesses in digital tools and technologies.

Just less than ten days ago there were reports of suspicions that Instagram and Facebook were listening in on people’s smartphones for use of that information to do marketing. Facebook and Instagram representatives have repeatedly denied these suspicions.  It is an extremely persistent, widely-held belief: You were talking to a friend about X, then an advertisement about X pops up hours later on your Facebook or Instagram feed.

Huawei has filed a motion for summary judgement as part of the process to challenge the constitutionality of Section 889 of the 2019 National Defence Authorisation Act (2019 NDAA). This after the US Department of Commerce had officially placed Huawei and 70 of its affiliates on the Bureau of Industry and Security’s “entity list”, effectively banning the firm from buying components from US companies without government approval.
