'Development, Social Justice, and Civil Society: An Introduction to the Political Economy of NGOs' is an introduction to the political economy of NGOs. Published by the World Association of Non-Governmental Organisation (WANGO), the book reviews the historical evolution that has led to the mainstreaming of NGOs and in some cases, to corruption, graft, and deviation from their founding principles, and also describes the challenges that NGOs face in less developed countries.

Chinese Ambassador Urges NGOs to Continue Good Work

The Chinese ambassador to Botswana has warned NGOs in the country to desist from acting like government organs.

Ding Xiaowen reminded NGOs that they are representatives of thousands of people from all walks of life.

Ding says NGOs should act as a messenger between the government and the people to promote mutual understanding and social responsibility. He stressed that NGOs should be "a partner, a supporter, and a promoter" when in agreement with government on certain issues.

SABC annual report raises more questions than it answers

After months of media reports about crises at the SABC and stories detailing feuds between the Board (or sections of it) and senior management (or certain members of the executive), media activists eagerly awaited the release of the public broadcaster’s annual report and financial statements. We wanted to see if the Corporation’s claims that the public has no need to worry are indeed true.

The report, released on 10 October 2008, certainly does not alleviate concerns about the health of our public broadcaster. Rather it raises even more alarm bells.
