Why Are You Laughing?

The recent protests which have rocked the Southern parts of Johannesburg, more specifically the Coloured townships of Eldorado Park and Ennerdale, should not be looked at in isolation. The organisation and mobilisation of this largely unemployed, marginalised, and erased people have been a recurring trend across Johannesburg, from Reiger Park to Westbury. They pertain primarily to two matters, a “housing” crisis and the issue of criminality.

No-Confidence Motion in Zuma A Moral Test

Even if the Democratic Alliance’s motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma fails‚ the “ensuing debate will ensure a more accountable and open system of governance,” according to Phephelaphi Dube, legal officer for the Centre for Constitutional Rights.

Dube says the motion will raise the obvious question as to whether members of Parliament are beholden to their party bosses rather than to the Constitution.

Rape Crisis Cape Town: Advocacy Coordinator

The Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust is a social profit organisation that promotes an end to violence against women, specifically rape, and assists women to achieve their right to live free of violence by reducing the trauma experienced by rape survivors, encouraging reporting of rape incidents, facilitating the active engagement of communities in challenging high rape rates and advocating for law reform and a stronger criminal justice system.

The Rape Crisis Cape Town Trust seeks to appoint an Advocacy Coordinator, based in Cape Town.

Master Class in Public Service Excellence

USB-Ed’s Impumelelo: The Stellenbosch Academy for Social Innovations Centre, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, are bringing project presenters in water, sanitation, recycling, and waste management from the e’Thekwini and Drakenstein Municipalities to present to a key group of public managers drawn from the Gauteng municipalities and region.
