Developing Communities

The Southern African Housing Foundation (SAHF) will be hosting a four-day conference and exhibition titled Developing Communities from 12-15 October 2008 in Cape Town.

The conference, which also features speakers in the field, will expose delegates to the latest housing information. The programme will include speakers who are experts in their field.

In light of the SAHF and CIH United Kingdom agreement on promoting the dissemination of information and supporting educational initiatives to highlight community development issues, an interesting programme will be presented.

Gender in Local Government

Gender in Local Government: A Sourcebook for Trainers is a sourcebook that provides gender-sensitive materials and resources to build local government capacity for sustainable, equitable and inclusive human settlements. Produced by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, the sourcebook is designed for experienced facilitators who are engaged in capacity building activities for local government, including elected officials, administrators, staff, and partner organisations.

Gauteng Declares War on High Food Prices

The Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment hosted a two-day summit to look at the impact of rising costs of basic food on poverty, from 10-11 July 2008 in Johannesburg.

Known as the Gauteng Food Summit, the event was attended by over 4 000 representatives from the provincial government, municipalities, community organisations, trade unions, and NGOs.

The summit explored ways of enhancing food security in the province aimed to find solutions to rising food prices and building partnerships.
