Trump declares ICT threat emergency amid Huawei fallout

US president Donald Trump has issued an executive order, declaring a national emergency over ICT threats.

In a message to Congress on securing the ICT and services supply chain, Trump said: "I have issued an executive order declaring a national emergency to deal with the threat posed by the unrestricted acquisition or use in the United States of information and communications technology or services designed, developed, manufactured, or supplied by persons owned by, controlled by, or subject to the jurisdiction or direction of foreign adversaries."

Google to Train Youth in Digital Skills

Google has announced that it will be training one million young Africans in digital skills in the next year.

The technology giant will‚ in partnership with Livity Africa‚ run two training programmes namely ‘Digify Bytes’ which will give digital skills to young people looking to develop a digital career; and ‘Digify Pro’ - a three-month immersion programme for digital specialists.

In addition to the two programmes to be offered‚ Google is launching an online learning portal digifyafrica.com‚ offering a range of digital skills courses for anyone in Africa for free.

Health Economic and HIV/AIDS Research Division (HEARD) is a self-funded, applied research unit based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban. HEARD conducts a range of research-from pure to applied- seeking to support all those intent on designing interventions to reduce the HIV pandemic in all sectors  in  the  SADC and East Africa region. Its research agenda is driven by current issues and is aimed at producing knowledge and evidence critical to informed policies and actions.
