NGOs to Sue Government Over CDF

Tanzanian NGOs have announced that they will sue the country’s government should it go ahead in introducing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Representatives of several NGOs are asking the government to also shelve the plan to channel the funds through local authorities if MPs will still be allowed to control them.

The Policy Forum members said the CDF has been wrongly mooted and planned, and will therefore be difficult to implement.

Zuma Urged to Sign Children’s Act

The Independent Democrats have called on President Jacob Zuma to sign into law an Act that will see the government funding civil society organisations involved in assisting the needy.

ID spokesperson, Lance Greyling, points out that, “In this vein, we call on President Jacob Zuma to urgently sign the Children’s Act, which will ensure the provision of money to cash-strapped civil society organisations providing services to children.”

The Freedom of impressions

On Saturday, I attended a workshop at Constitutions Hill organised by Congo Renaissance (CoRe), a platform of Congolese living in South Africa in commemoration of the World Press Freedom happening the following day, Sunday 3rd of May.

Worldwide the World Press Freedom day is considered as a day of action to encourage and develop initiatives in favor of the freedom of the press; a day to remind governments to respect their commitments to press freedom; and a day to alert the public and to increase awareness of the importance of freedom of the press.

SANGONeT NGO Engagement - Durban

The Southern African NGO Network (SANGONeT) will host a one-day NGO Engagement on Monday , 09 March 2009, at the Diakonia Centre in Durban.

The event will be used to present NGOs in the Western Cape with a detailed overview of SANGONeT's various information and ICT services, including NGO Pulse, SANGOTeCH, Prodder Directory and our various civil society events.

The main objectives of this event will be to highlight how NGOs could benefit from SANGONeT's services, as well as to generate feedback from NGOs about their information and ICT requirements.

SANGONeT NGO Engagement - Cape Town, 12 March 2009

Project Cycle Management Toolkit

The Project Cycle Management: CBO Training Toolkit aims to build the confidence and skills required by CBOs to develop and manage their HIV/AIDS projects more systematically through project cycle management. Authored by CARE and the International HIV Alliance, the toolkit was developed for use by facilitators involved in the training of these CBOs. It can also be used by NGOs/CBOs themselves to implement training within their organisations. It describes a workshop scenario providing a range of participatory activities which can be carried out to build skills.
