Diakonia condemns political unrest and calls for political tolerance and leadership

The upcoming national and provincial elections provide all the citizens of our land with an opportunity – their democratic right – to vote for leaders of their choice. This right and duty should be exercised in an environment which is free of fear or intimidation, and as a result of a process of fair exchange of information regarding the issues which affect their future welfare.

2009 Employee Volunteer Week

CAF Southern Africa is asking South Africans to “volunteer for change” during the Employee Volunteer Week which runs from 9-15 March 2009.

The 2009 Employee Volunteer Week has a specific emphasis on skills transfer i.e. the empowerment of local people and communities to improve their well-being through the transfer of appropriate knowledge and skills.

CAF Southern Africa will connect volunteers with a wide range of activities aimed at matching the skills and interests of volunteers with the critical needs of communities.

SANGONeT - NGO Engagements, Durban & Cape Town, 9 & 12 March 2009

The Southern African NGO Network (SANGONeT) will host two NGO Engagements in March 2009 in Durban and Cape Town respectively.

These events will be used to present NGOs with a detailed overview of SANGONeT's various information and ICT services, including NGO Pulse, SANGOTeCH, Prodder Directory and our range of civil society events.

The main objectives of these events will be to highlight how NGOs could benefit from SANGONeT's services, as well as to generate feedback from NGOs about their information and ICT requirements.

SANGONeT NGO Engagement - Cape Town, 12 March 2009

The Southern African NGO Network (SANGONeT) will host a one-day NGO Engagement on Thursday, 12 March 2009, at the River Club in Observatory, Cape Town.

The event will be used to present NGOs in the Western Cape with a detailed overview of SANGONeT's various information and ICT services, including NGO Pulse, SANGOTeCH, Prodder Directory and our various civil society events.

The Roots of the NGO Crisis: A Look Beyond the Surface

I have been active in the NGO sector in South Africa for about 27 years starting out as volunteer, field worker, organiser, programmes manager and later as director. I have also served on various NGO boards, act as advisor to many and now practice as a development practitioner within the sector.
