'It's not helpful for South Africa' - Mahumapelo's views on '9 lost years' comments

Former president Jacob Zuma's staunch ally, Supra Mahumapelo, has pleaded with ANC leaders – those for and against Zuma - to stop debating his legacy in public.

Mahumapelo expressed his views just a day after Zuma took to Twitter to defend his nine years in office as head of state.
 

Human Rights Commission tackles Agrizzi over k-word rant

The Human Rights Commission says it intends to initiate legal proceedings against Angelo Agrizzi in the Equality Court.

This follows his testimony at the state capture commission in which he admitted to using racial slurs. He also admitted to being a "racist". In the audio clip played at the inquiry, Agrizzi is heard using the k-word numerous times while laughing with those he was in conversation with.

Hardcore prawn: How Bosasa made fishy money

A prawn farm in Krugersdorp sounds unrealistically fanciful, but controversial state contractor Bosasa set one up in 2015 with the purpose of laundering fishy cash and avoiding the South African Revenue Service’s (Sars) tentacles.

Details of the farm were made known at the state capture commission on Wednesday when former Bosasa chief financial officer Andries van Tonder detailed how the company cooked its books to derail investigations by Sars and launder cash for bribe.

Parliament to probe Clifton beach 'racism'

Parliament will hold an all-day inquiry into what transpired at Clifton Fourth Beach in Cape Town, where beachgoers were allegedly escorted off the beach by a private security company.

The incident was deemed racist by a number of organisations and compared to apartheid-era beach bans. In the wake of the incident, a number of protests took place, including the slaughtering of a sheep at the beach “to exorcise the demon of racism”.

Ramaphosa's 'nine lost years' speech

When President Cyril Ramaphosa spoke out about South Africa’s "nine lost years" at a dinner in Davos this week, Old Mutual CEO Peter Moyo said the cost of the period crystallised for him.  

"The President spoke about nine wasted years and it was the first time I heard that phrase. It made me think about how the country had been run in the last nine years. 

"We lost some of the gains we had. It was a period in which we could have done much better as a country.

Mokonyane slams Zondo commission amid Bosasa allegations

As the details of alleged corruption at Bosasa continue to emerge at the Zondo commission of inquiry into state capture, Environmental Affairs Minister Nomvula Mokonyane has hit out at allegations of her involvement in the scandal.

At the start of the second week of former Bosasa chief operating officer Angelo Agrizzi’s testimony, Mokonyane became one of the most high-profile names to be pulled into the saga.

Former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi - an eyewitness, and participant to large-scale corruption at state entities - has delivered damning confirmatory testimony to a decade-old Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report into tender rigging at the prisons department.

During the sixth day of his marathon testimony before the state capture commission of inquiry on Wednesday, Agrizzi was taken through the SIU Bosasa report step by step. 

Zokwana tries to stop disciplinary hearings of three officials

24 January 2019

Fisheries Minister Senzeni Zokwana cited the need to protect classified documents when he tried to get the Western Cape High Court to order the department's director general to stop the disciplinary proceedings of three officials.

"We are in essence here to protect those documents," advocate Porchia Long submitted on Zokwana's behalf.
