Technology Eyed to Improve Lives of Women
An all women delegation of technology innovators from the United States recently visited Liberia to explore how mobile technology could be used to improve the lives of women.
The head of the delegation, Professor Ann Marie Slaughter from Princeton University, said Liberia was chosen as a destination because many women are playing key leadership roles.
Slaughter further said the delegation examined how people could use the Internet to connect with opportunities, adding that more work needs to be done to improve the infrastructure of the Internet.

The Plenary of the Liberia Senate has voted to summon three CSOs to appear before it this week for making statements the senate describes as ‘disrespectful’ and ‘inciting’ against it.
The three organisations - Liberia Democracy Watch, Center for Democratic Empowerment and the Institute for Democracy and Development, were complained to the Senate by one of its member for making alleged derogatory remarks against the August body for the passage of a recent joint resolution instead of the threshold bill.
They are accused of pouring insults on the Legislature, by describing it its leadership as being ‘mentally impoverished’.

A group calling itself the National Consciousness Movement of Liberia has staged a citywide demonstration to protest the report released by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
The group recommends the prosecution of former warring faction leaders and some of their associates as well as a thirty-year debarment from public office of certain Liberians including President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for their support of the war.
The head of the National Consciousness Movement, Muna Kamara, described the report as 'evil genius and anti peace'. Kamara argued that the report is not in the interest of the Liberian people and any attempt to implement it will cause Liberians to lose the opportunity that has attracted many in the global community to aiding the country and that the international community may not take Liberia serious.
