Youth Leadership Development

Saturday, April 14, 2012 - 20:48

As I think of leadership I reflect on a quote by African Enterprise Founder, Michael Cassidy, “God does not work in a vacuum. His plan has been unfolding since He began time. Much history has preceded the leader’s arrival at the organisation. Leaders are remiss if they make decisions as if there were no track record or history to their organisation.

…Spiritual leaders should recognise with an even greater sense of accountability that their lives have a purpose for the particular time that God led them to their organisation; and that purpose is part of His greater plan. As soon as possible the new leader should seek out evidence of God’s previous activity in the church or institution to which the leader has been called.”

My take on this quote has motivated me further to pass on all the leadership skills and knowledge that I have acquired over the years from ‘all the people that have led me’. The Youth Leadership Development component of Ambassadors Youth and Community Development is driven to train, equip and mentor young emerging leaders from every walk of life to. We feel that it is important to help the young leaders to recognise their roots and know their foundation, which will strengthen their leadership in the future. This will enable the youth to play a greater leadership role where ever they are – in schools, churches, communities or places of employment - and be true ambassadors to the world
In the first month of existence, we have conducted eight training workshops, which are ongoing. We have 50 planned for the year in Durban, Pietermaritzburg, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Pretoria. It is our goal to train and give mentorship to 1 000 Young Leaders this year. Here is what couple of young leaders had to say…

“It was an interesting training programme we really enjoyed ourselves working with you guys we looking forward to participate in any programme you’ll bring in the future but most of all thank you and God bless” – Wellington Majola
“The training was great I felt very good, I felt that I can do more because the word of God says: for there is nothing that God cannot do. It really inspired me to do more, thanks a lot and can’t wait 4 more, ” explains Lesego Phori

“Most people who want to get ahead do it backward. They think, ‘I’ll get a bigger job, then I’ll learn how to be a leader.’ But showing leadership skill is how you get the bigger job in the first place. Leadership isn’t a position, it’s a process,” J.C Maxwell.

Hi I couldnt agree more with that article. I'm very passionate about youth and believe that to impact theyouth in a positive way one needs to empower twith knowlege and skill. As opposed to giving them fish teach them to fish so they will be able to change their lives and also impart knowledge to other young people. I have tried to follow the link but unfortunetly the page has been removed please. I'm interested in the youth leadership how can i become part of it?
