Maths and Science vs Morals and Values

Dear Editor,

Although I did not read the article by Julie Staub I would like to a comment about the apparent lack of facilities at some schools for teaching Science subjects. I employ on Saturdays an 18 year old school learner to help my wife in the garden and in conversation he told us he would like to become a doctor and was studying biology at school. I was very impressed but when questioning him about the course it transpired that the school had no equipment suitable for this subject ie microscopes, specimen slides etc, and apparently not much in the way of relevant text books. After the school holidays I enquired about what section of the syllabus was being covered this term only to find that biology was not part of the school curriculum this term and is not being taught. If this is how science is being promoted in our schools it is not any wonder that the country is experiencing poor examination results in science subjects.

This comment is my personal view and not from the company for which I work.

Regards,
Peter Reynolds
