Just walking around

Just walking around
says a Grade 10 friend
of her week one
at our local high school
apparently where the pass
and pregnancy rates compete
in the gossip stakes

No teaching happening
No learning happening
Just walking around

Should I worry
as I'm not a parent
just a local concerned
as I should be

As you should be
too, parent or not
local citizen, behind
the security of your fence

You should be
in our children's future
and one day their children's too

Sunday evening, 9pm-ish, idle talk over tea with 2 youngsters, watching the education party-politicians strut their stuff – including our national minister.
