Childline KwaZulu Natal rendering a therapeutic hand to the children in KZN!

 A child's life in South Africa is most challenging. Not only are the most basic needs not met, but violations to children are rife.  It creates great despondency for children to know that such dangers as sexual abuse exist and that they, as children have to constantly be vigilant.  The sad reality is that, the most unsafe people in the child's environment are those that a child knows and trusts.  The costs of sexual abuse to our society is staggering, and we see it all around us...  Our statistics from  Childine's 12 Satellite offices based in KZN highlights the enormity of violence in KZN.  

Our offices which are based in Durban Central,GJ Crookes Hospital in Port Shepstone, Umlazi, Pietermaritzburg Sub Office, Inanda, Chatsworth, Maphumulo, Ndwedwe, Grey’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, Ladysmith, Umbumbulu and Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Phoenix, rendered  healing and therapy to 5018 children, for the period April 2007 to March 2008. Healing is a process, therefore these children were involved in approximately 32 970 counselling sessions.

Our other services entail : -Court Preparation and Support; Education and Awareness to schools and communities; 24/7 Provincial Tollfree Helpline; Advocacy and Advisory services; Parenting programmes for families affected by abuse; Corrective Rehabilitative services to Children who sexually abuse others; Victim Empowerment, Adult Survivors of childhood sexual abuse and Training.  

Our 24/7 Provincial Tollfree Helpline is based at the Durban Central Office that receives an average of 35 000 calls per month from children and adults in the KwaZulu-Natal Province, (from all socio-economic, racial and cultural backgrounds).  The help line provides immediate counselling services and may redirect the callers to our respective therapeutic service points for follow up services. The Crisis Line provides services to children and their families averting potential crises and is accessible to areas where resources may be inaccessible.
